Budget a course or paid community before choosing a platform

Estimate course and community launch costs: storage, email, collaboration, sales fees, live sessions and branded apps.

Choose the experience you are selling

A course or paid community launch budget starts with the learner’s experience. A short self-paced lesson and an ongoing membership with discussion, events and support are different products. Buying a platform with a long feature list before deciding which experience matters can leave you paying for the wrong constraints.

Mini Course Generator is a candidate for building and delivering compact interactive learning material. EzyCommunity is a candidate when lessons and member conversation belong together. They overlap around learning content, but neither should be assumed to include every function of the other.

Write a one-paragraph promise for the initial release: who joins, what they can access, how long support lasts and what they must be able to do. Keep the first release small enough that you can inspect the whole learner journey before inviting an established audience.

List the courses, members and storage you need

Imagine a first release containing six short lessons, supporting worksheets and an optional discussion space. Decide whether “six lessons” means six courses, six pages inside one course, or several collections in the chosen platform. Similar words on pricing pages can describe different units.

List the courses, members and storage you need
RequirementFigure to collect before buyingWhy it can change the plan
Learning materialCourses, collections and uploaded file sizesCourse count and storage are separate
AudienceExpected learners or community membersA course allowance does not prove unlimited people
CommunicationRecipients multiplied by planned sendsA member ceiling can exceed the email allowance
StaffAdmins, colleagues, reviewers and support usersA large content allowance may still be a solo plan
SellingGross sales, platform commission and processor chargesA low entry price can have a larger variable cost
Live deliveryEvent entries, meeting capacity and recordingsScheduling an event does not establish video-service access

Mark unknowns explicitly. Mini Course Generator’s AppSumo-specific learner ceiling was not resolved in the published product information. Do not replace it with an unlimited claim from a different subscription plan or an older article.

Budget media before paying for more course slots

For a hypothetical library with six lessons and 700 MB of uploaded media per lesson, the media alone is about 4.2 GB. Worksheets and future versions need additional room. Compare that estimate with Mini Course Generator’s current one-code storage allowance of 5 GB. It may fit initially while leaving little room for growth; the right decision depends on the actual exported files, not an assumed compression ratio.

The entry purchase is $99 once. Higher code counts change storage and AI capacity, but collaboration is a separate constraint. The current nine-code offer adds one colleague alongside the admin; it does not establish an unlimited teaching team or enterprise API and SSO access.

You may not need AI-generated illustrations for every lesson. Existing assets you have permission to use can reduce generation spend. For the documented MCP workflow, text and course structure are treated differently from generated images. An outside AI assistant may still require its own paid account. See the course-creation hub for the related purchase checks.

Compare costs for free and paid memberships

A free community has no sales commission to recover through an upgrade. Choose its member, storage, course and email capacity first. For a paid community, commission can justify a higher tier before the member count reaches the entry cap.

Use this general calculation with confirmed current rates: expected gross sales multiplied by the difference in commission rates gives the potential platform-fee reduction. Compare that amount with the extra upfront licence cost over the same decision period. Keep payment processing separate; a zero platform commission does not mean a fee-free payment.

For example, if one option charges 4% and another 1.5%, the difference on an assumed $2,000 of sales is $50. This is an arithmetic example, not a revenue forecast or a promise that every sale is charged identically. EzyCommunity’s current tier details and commission conditions are in the product buying page. Use those terms and your actual payment route before making the final calculation.

Do not justify an upgrade with sales you have no reasonable basis to expect. For an unproven course, the ability to deliver a small pilot and learn from participants can matter more than optimizing a hypothetical large membership.

Check email, mobile branding and live delivery independently

Suppose 400 members should receive three marketing messages during the month. That requires 1,200 sends before any extra campaign. EzyCommunity Tier 1 currently lists 1,000 monthly marketing emails, while Tier 2 lists 1,500. Member capacity alone therefore cannot determine the purchase. Confirm what counts as a marketing send and how any separately priced email packs work.

Shared mobile access is another common source of confusion. Members using a vendor’s shared app is different from your business receiving a separate branded app-store listing. EzyCommunity directs buyers to a separate branded-app offer. A white-label setting or included mobile access does not establish that the separate app is part of the AppSumo purchase.

For live teaching, ask what the platform supplies: an event listing, a meeting room, streaming, recordings or only a place to attach a link. The available documentation does not establish unlimited native meeting and streaming entitlements. Keep that cost unknown until the actual requirement is confirmed.

Check the learner experience before moving members

Create a test checklist for a future account session: a new learner, a paying member, an expired member and a staff user. Each should see only the intended material and have a clear route for support. Inspect course navigation, downloads, invitation emails and the export process.

Keep editable source lessons, original files and member records in an appropriate controlled location outside a single platform. Do not assume a screenshot-prevention promise or a forthcoming access-control change will protect every lesson; the product research identifies limits and unresolved behavior that matter to an established community.

Choose Mini Course Generator when the compact learning object is the central deliverable and its documented gates fit. Choose EzyCommunity when ongoing member participation is central and the combined communication and sales costs make sense. The community-platform hub helps with that second decision. If the initial goal is simply to deliver one useful lesson to a small group, your existing document, video and communication tools may be sufficient while you validate the format.
